    Open excel in new window?

    Good day,

Currently, when I open multiple excel docs, they all appear in the same window. How can I set it to open in a new window?

    Thanks!

    Hi

In Tools, Options, General, tick Ignore Other Applications.

Ok, I just tried this with two different excel documents. It worked fine the first time. After I "checked" the box the second time, I am not able to open 'any' excel files. I rebooted my computer and I still cant open any excel docs! All that comes up when I click on a excel doc now is a window with a gray interior.

This is really scary as my business relies on these excel documents. Any idea what happened?

    Thanks.

Scary indeed, I had neved had that before.

Close Excel, then Open Excel from Start Programs, and re-set the option.

It appears to work only for the current session, and the next session requires a re-set and re-start Excel.

It's not too scary, you can open files from within the gray Excel window.

    added:
http://www.dailydoseofexcel.com/arch...dows-explorer/ suggests that you do the UnRegserver to re-set your excel. This may help.

You wouldn't really expect a program option that shuts off DDE to prevent access to other programs, would forget itsself and shut off DDE to itsself on the next startup.

Ok, by opening excel from the start program and unchecking that option worked. Whew! Thank you for the quick response!

So if excel doesnt work when I have the "ignore other applications" option checked, am I not able to open excel in two different window then?

Apparently, but I will check this further tomorrow (it's just after a good time for experimenting with glass slippers)

I suppose it depends exactly what you mean by "in a new window," but most of the time when I see this question asked, people are looking to have each spreadsheet show up as its own thing in the taskbar. That option is in Tools -> options -> view tab -> check "windows in taskbar" option.
