    Forward Slash Problem

    Hi

I've recently got a new laptop with the new excel 2007. When I first enter the forward slash key in a cell it gave me a letter "e" with a ' on top of it but this didn't do this in Word. After some googling found out that this might because of the language setting. So I made sure both the computer (control panel) and Microsoft Office (Microsoft Tools) setting were set to English (US). After I did this now when I hit the forward slash key in excel it acts like the ALT key showing the letter shortcut for the menus at the top. Also this doesn't happen in Word (forward slashes appear in Word). Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks

    Hi M

this is the default setting in Excel and harks back to the original use for keys in Lotus 1-2-3.

If it irks you, you can change it under Tools Options Transition.

    Transistion location

    Thanks James for your help.

Now my next problem. Where do I go to change the transition key in Excel 2007. I want to be able to enter forward slashes into cells not have it act as ALT. I've looked in the "excel options" menu and did a search in Excel help and the web and can't find it. Can anyone help me?

    Hi mortikiv,

In Excel 2007, click the Office Logo, then click Excel Options.

In the options window, click Advanced and then scroll down the advanced options all the way to the bottom.

Un-check any 'Transition' settings under the Lotus compatibility settings. (Last 3 in the list)
