I have an xlsx file with a PivotTable that is pulling data from an xls file in the same directory. On a regular basis when I open the xlsx file, it changes the path to the xls file to:
'\Users\dobes\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\[Business List.xls]Business List'!$A:$P
Whereas that actual file is in my Documents folder. It works as long as Excel is open, but it seems like closing and re-opening Excel can cause this problem to come back.
Has anyone seen something like this? Why would Excel do this to the links?
Just a wild guess, but is that file on a mapped drive? You might move it to your C drive, even at the root level, and see if it holds the data connection.
Yes, I am having exactly the same problem, but it is not only links to pivot tables that are affected, it is ALL hyperlinks. I have spent many hours correcting the hyperlinks. only to find that they have all been changed again. It is infuriating. I cannot understand why excel changes the links, but what is most confusing is - why does it change the links to a location THAT IT CANNOT FIND.
Will some kind soul please let me know how to stop this occurring before I go completely MAD !!!
Incidentally, can anyone please tell me what all this "AppData\Roaming" business is all about - I don't want to roam, I just want the links to stay exactly as I first programmed them!
My data is on the "C" drive, not a mapped drive.
