    IF Function

I have attached a worksheet that shows the last and first name of an employee along with their hire date and term date, if termed. What I am looking for is a function that will tell me if a person was active as of 12/31/08 which will read true on the side of their name under active; I also need a function that will tell me if a person worked over 6 months in 2008. Yesterday, I had a genius help me with another function for this sheet but I was hoping to add this function in another column.

The first person John Doe was hired in 2005 and has a true on the side of his name which meant that he was active as of 12/31/08 but as you can see Jane Doe has true on the side of her hire date and false on the side of her term date and I don't want it to read the first true but the last true of someones name, but Jane Doe qualifies for working over 6 months even though she started in 2007. If it gets complicated then I don't need to know if someone worked over 6 months from a carryover of another year, but it would be helpful if I can get the information for someone who has worked 6 months or more in 2008.

    Re: IF Function

Not necessarily a better title but.....anyways.....

You say Jane Doe started in 2007, but your sheet shows she started in 2008 as far as I can see...

So what should the Active Cells results actually be? Are the TRUEs/FALSEs there the actual expected results?

    Re: IF Function

I made a mistake by stating Jane Doe started in 2007 it was actually Jon Smith, but I am not worried about Jon Smith anymore. Jane Doe started in 2008 and was termed in 2008 but she worked for 6 months or more which I am trying to achieve. The True represents hire date and False represents term so on John Doe you see that he was hired as of 2005 and it states true which means that he is still active. Jane Doe on 1/18/08 states true because she was hired on that date and on 7/23/08 it states false because that is when she was termed, so what I need is a formula that will tell me if a person is still active as in John Doe's case or not active but worked for 6 months or more in 2008 as in Jane Doe's case.

The reason I need this information is because I have over 10K rows that have multiple names and dates and I am trying to filter out only the information that I need.

    Re: IF Function

This formula should return TRUE if either the date in column D is Before 12/31/08 or the date in D is later than 6 months ago (based on today's date). It will return FALSE if both conditions fail.

    is that what you needed?

    Re: IF Function

Sort of, but when I added someone that was hired and termed in 2003 it stated true which is really not true because that person did not work longer than 6 months in 2008 nor were they active as of 12/31/08. I need for it to read if they are still active as of 1/1/09 or 12/31/08 and the only row that matters is the last row with their name. Attached I have an example that also states true for the scenario above. If I can get it to state true only if they worked for 6 months or more in 2008 or are still active as of 1/1/09 or 12/31/08.

Justin Doe should have came up as false.
