    Counting Games in rows

What I am trying to do is find the AVERAGE length it took to get a victory per opponent.

    Fox example
    NYY Vs TOR
    played 4-1-08 through 4-3-08
it took the Yankees 1 game to gain a victory
    NYY Vs TB
    played 4-5-08 through 4-7-08
it took the Yankees 2 games to gain a victory

so the average for the first two series was 1.5

Anybody got a formula to do this?

    Matt

    NEW YORK YANKEES VS ...

    COLUMN A, B, C, D
    04/01/2008 TOR W 3-2
    04/02/2008 TOR L 2-5
    04/03/2008 TOR W 3-2
    04/05/2008 TB L 3-6
    04/06/2008 TB W 2-0
    04/07/2008 TB W 6-1
    04/08/2008 @ KC L 2-5
    04/09/2008 @ KC L 0-4
    04/10/2008 @ KC W 6-1
    04/11/2008 @ BOS W 4-1
    04/12/2008 @ BOS L 3-4
    04/13/2008 @ BOS L 5-8

    Couple questions first:

    1. How many times will they play a team? It'll change things if there's three series of three games, kinda thing.

    2. Example workbook? Please post one, guessing at a format is no fun, it makes for multiple revisions to code.

    3. You "Really need this"? It's a baseball spreadsheet. You have questionable priorities, sir.

    Re: Counting Games in rows

I will post the sheet however what I am using this for is so I can copy data from last years baseball schedule run it through this code and give me an answer so I know what a full seasons avg games played is. This tells me which betting formula t use.

By the way your last comment I felt was disrespectfull. I worked over 40 hours a week and am a good husband good dad. I am also starting a business. When I do have free time I like to bet on sports. I use math not hunches. I promise you this my sports betting investment is doing better than your 401k or any of Bernie Madoffs clients.

It really sucks to wait all weekend for someone to provide a helpfull only to click on the thread and see you have been disrespected.

    Now back to my question.

A series consists of a set of games (2-4) that teams play each other without playing anyone else.

In case of a 2 game series it does not qualify so its disregarded.

In case of a 4 game series I make it a three game series by playing games 1-3 or 2-4. I chose the set with the lower avg line. The 4th game of the series is disregarded.

A series number is unique. Nyy can play tor in four three game series each will be its own series.

Thanks for any help you can offer

    Matt
