We often get checks from a customer for an odd amount so you know they are paying specific invoices. Their list of invoices to be payed may include twenty or thirty different amounts (Col A), but the customer doesn't reference which ones they are paying with this check. If I enter the check amount in a cell (C1), is there any way to find which combination of amounts (from Col A) total up to match the amount in C1?

This gets asked quite a lot, the problem is without some kind of logical approach, the calculations are immense!
Assuming you had 30 invoices, and you knew the ammound paid 5, thats still 17,000,000 combinations!
So no, unless you have some logic to cut down the choices!

Thanks for the help. I can see the problems with exponential growth as the original list gets longer. We can call this 'closed'.
