Hi,
I did do a quick search, but couldn't find the answer so started a new thread.
We have a database of about 75,000 addresses that was sent to us, but when it comes to some of the German addresses (plus a few from other countries) the umlaut's are changing into ? or % marks.
The ü is changing to ?
The ä is changing to %
The à is changing to ‡
This happened as we first opened up the database after the client sent it to us. Is this happening because they saved it in the wrong way or something?
If anyone has any ideas, they would be most welcome.
Richard
Hi,
Welcome to the forum, can you not use Find/Replace?

That would only be a quick fix solution, and barr checking every character I can't be 100% sure that I have spotted every strange character. I would also like to know why this happened in the first place so I wouldn't have to go the whole find/replace method.
Thanks for the quick response though.
If it was sent from another country may be something to do with the regional settings??? Or keyboard set up???75,000 addresses that was sent to us

That's a good point.
I know the database we were sent was from a company in the UK, but it could have been compiled via different databases via other countries.
