Question Protecting a sheet with comments

    Hey,

On Excel 07 I have a form where I don't want the users to edit the sheet. There are comment boxes to give instructions to help the users. I need to protect the sheet so that the users can't edit the sheet, but the only way to make the comment boxes still appear upon rollover is to allow the users to Edit Objects. I don't want them to be able to select pictures and things.

So, basically what I am asking is how to allow comments to appear when you rollover a cell on a protected sheet without allowing the users to edit pictures.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Protecting a sheet with comments

    Thanks for the reply.

Ahh... what it is, is that I have a cell with an image placed on top of the cell. And the cell has the comment assigned. So when you rollover the CELL then the comment appears, but when you rollover the IMAGE it doesn't. So, any ideas to allow the user to rollover the IMAGE and have the comment appear?

    Thanks again,

that happens if its protected or not!
another way if you only have a short text less than 31 characters including spaces is to insert a chart into a cell
just click a cell insert chart/ finish paste a picture into the chart
click the picture and change its name in the top left of excel(where it says picture 1) to a short message. resize chart and image to fit as you like. protect sheet
see attached no password needed to unprotect
edit grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i cant get this to work in 2007!

    Yep... it doesn't work in 2007 :S

Oh well, looks like I will just have to allow the user to edit objects

    Thanks for your reply anyway
