Hi,
I'm currently looking at putting a spreadsheet together to calculate deflections on a simply supported beam and as part of this I'd like to make it as 'user friendly' as possible.
I would like some sort of list / combobox (whichever is easiest) that refers to a lookup table containing different sections, such as:
- SHS
- RHS
- Eq. Angle
- Channel
- etc...
From here, I'd like the next list / combobox to take this choice of section and show a list of possible sizes using the appropriate lookup table. I'd like to have a seperate lookup table for each section, so this list would need to be able to select from any of these depending on the result of the first list.
This would then enable the variables on the calculation sheet to be automatically populated from the data within the selected lookup table, speeding up the calculation process and ensuring all calcs are done using the same data.
Now I don't know if this is even possible, never mind working out the formula etc. for it, so any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
Regards
Steve
is this what you mean ??

Based on the selection of the first list, the second list's options change.
Looking for great solutions but hate waiting?

Thats looks easy enough, cheers!
So, I would set up the tables as per the example to select the size, however I'd like to keep the rest of the mechanical data seperate for each section in a different lookup table.
Is it possible then to use the first answer, be it SHS, RHS, Channel etc. to select the appropriate lookup table? Would I have to name the group of data cells in that lookup table the same name as the result (SHS, RHS etc.) or could I call the individual worksheet SHS, RHS, Channel etc. ??
Just follow the steps and you'll end up with the attachement.
