For a specific date range, I am trying to count the number of items in that range.
Can you be more specific, are you counting dates between 2 dates, are you counting number of items in another column that have dates associated to them?

Okay, this is what I have. I have a column with random dates and I need to count how many of those dates fall within a certain time frame (ie.quarterly, monthly).
Thanks so much for your help
Try something like:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(A3:A5>=C1),--(A3:A5<=D1))
where A3:A5 contain the random dates and C1 and D1 contain Start/End dates, respectively
Adjust as necessary.
