try to Matching two spreadsheets
Hi,
Would be very grateful for some help with this, as am not all that great at Excel. Basically I have several pretty big (over 10,000 records) data sets on fisheries, and I want to try and match records between them.
In dataset A I have a list of fish quantities (in tonnes) obtained by individual boats on specific dates.
In datasets B & C I have the geographical coordinates of where some, but not all, of these catches were made, along with the dates. The boats are identified by unique vessel registrations.
What I want to do is combine the position data from datasets B & C with the catch data from dataset A wherever possible. Doing this manually would probably kill me!

PS: Sorry, forgot to say I'm using Vista and Excel 2003

Use VLOOKUP. You'll probably need to combine the boat name/number in a new column first, assuming you have the boat bumber in all datasets?
