I have filtered and then sub-totalled some records, using Excel 2007.
For some reason, the "group level" indicators (that is, "1" "2" or "3") don't seem to be showing up in the top lefthand corner of the Excel 2007 spreadsheet following the use of the sub-total function.
I see that there are a couple of "grouping" icons next to the subtotal icon in Excel 2007, but I haven't been able to use these successfully.
In the end, I want to be able to view a summary of the sub-totals.
(As a workaround, I thought I would filter the "Change" column so that only those records with a description ending with "Total" would be visible. However, this caused the sub-total of the Amount column to change to zero.)
Any suggestions ?
The Grouping problem I encountered appears to be related to the fact that I had filtered some records prior to Sub-Totalling.
My solution: After filtering, copy the remaining records into a new worksheet which will contain only the remaining records. THEN sub-total.
After sub-totalling on the 2nd "clean" worksheet, the grouping "levels" appeared in their normal place.
