On a particular spreadsheet, autofill (to fill a series of values) isn't working. Pulling the autofill handle only copies the initial value without incrementing. I have checked the Tools - Options - Edit settings. This spreadsheet was originally created in 2003, then edited and saved in 2007 and subsequently saved-as 2003. This problem, however, also exists in 2007 if I open it in that version. (Also, I do not know if using a different version of Excel has anything to do with the problem)
I have also tried copying the contents of the spreadsheet to a new spreadsheet, but the problem persists. If I copy and do a paste special, I do not get the option to paste values, formulas only, which typically happens when trying to copy paste between two versions of Excel.![]()
the question here is whether you're using VBA to autofill, or using an equation in a cell to fill it with a specific value?

I'm using the autofill handle (bottom right corner of cell); no VBA and no formula. Just a simple drag of the autofill handle
post the workbook or a sample that doesn't work

Well, in the process of creating a sample spreadsheet to upload, I figured it out. If Auto-filter is turned on for the column, even if the filter is not active (i.e. all cells displayed), then autofill doesn't work.
