    Vlookup or Hlookup

As I am at a loss to know even what function I need to run what I am trying to achieve; I can’t even read up on it and have a go at trying to construct it.

Any advice would be very welcome.

    Hi julhs,

You're working too hard. See the attached where I've made 3 different Pivot Tables from your data. I think you need to add a category to each transaction and learn to do pivot tables.

    Hello julhs.
    good morning.

here's a sample of vlookup from your dummy file.

but I would prefer the use of pivot table as stated by MarvinP.

TMS, yes we did, and your help was invaluable.
It is presenting the figures in the form that I wanted; by payment method. It is just that I have been asked if they can be displayed as an itemised list of payments to the various recipients as well.

MarvinP & vlady, thanks for your examples. Will have a proper look at them tomorrow, brains fried enough for one day.

    Regards
