    Formula for: if Column A = Part # X, Column B = Weight Y

I had posted this query in someone elses Thread sorry (http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...olumn-b-y.html).

I have a similar problem to the above thread where column A is a particular Part number (could be one of 900+ parts) and in another column I have to input its weight. What I am trying to do is have the weight auto fill in its column without looking it up each time an order is typed in the spreadsheet. I tried the formula posted by teylyn in the above thread which worked when using one Part # : =IF(A2=177,"5") but it didn't like it if the Part number has symbols or letters. Can the formula be amended to allow these? And any suggestions how best to add the 900 different Part numbers to the formula. I'm happy to number crunch it. Just wasn't sure on where my commas and brackets should be for multiple Part numbers.
    Thanks.

You're really talking about a VLOOKUP formula.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook. Don't upload a picture when you have a workbook question. None of us is inclined to recreate your data. Upload the workbook and manually add an 'after' situation so that we can see what you expect. In addition clearly explain how you get the results..

Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file.

To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page.
Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

    Re: Formula for: if Column A = Part # X, Column B = Weight Y

Thank you TMShucks for getting back.
Hopefully I have attached an Order Form example of the type I am trying to modify. My intent is to be able to manually input one of up to 900 part numbers into column A, and that column E will then auto fill based on the weights for each Part # which are identified on Worksheet titled Weights.

In this example Part # '1-b' weighs '5'kg and Part # '2-c' weighs '6'kg. Depending on the Qty ordered, the weights would increase accordingly.

    I appreciate your help.
    Regards,
