    Daily Food Calculator

    Hi guys,

    New to the forum.

What I am trying to do is basically a food calculator for a month. I have the main page set up with the total $$ spent for each day as well as how many weight watcher points used. Then all of the $$ from all of the days are added together and displayed.

Each page in the workbook is a new day. In each page there are three sections, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. In each section there is the amount used, the food item, the cost of the food item, and the number of weight watcher points used.

Right now I have to enter all of the information in manually. What I want to do is have it do it automatically. I type in the amount (i.e. 50 grams), then the food name (turkey) and it then calculates the cost of the item (if 100 grams = $1 then 50 grams = $0.50). Then it would input that information into the appropriate cell. It would also know that 100 grams of turkey has 2 weight watcher points and that 50 grams of turkey has 1. It would also input that data into the appropriate cell next to the total cost of 50 grams of turkey.

This information (the food, total cost...) would be on one a separate page in the workbook.

Is this possible or I am just making too much work...

Thank you for all of your help.

    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

It would give all of us on the Forum a good start, if you could upload a sample WorkBook with what you already have, and showing where you want what.

    Re: Daily Food Calculator

    Hi,

I didn't think to do that... duh...

I was playing around a bit with INDEX and MATCH and I was having some success. I was able to input the name and the quantity and have it put the price. Can you add another cell for the weight watcher points?

Also, since I don't know how many different items I will use in one day there are more rows than are needed. I have at the bottom of each meal a total cost and total points. IF I use INDEX and MATCH and there are no values in it it gives #N/A. Is there a way for it to return $0.00 or nothing if there is nothing for it to look up?

    Re: Daily Food Calculator

    Hi guys,

So I figured out how to make that work by using some of the examples of different files that I found posted.

I have a different question that is related to the way that I have it set up.

IS there a way to link what I enter into each meal for each day to somehow link to a master inventory?

Say I have a quart of milk and there are 10 cups of milk in a quart. On Monday I have 2 cups of milk, on Tuesday 2 cups of Milk.

IS there a way for on the main page, or an inventory page to have the total value (initially 10) to decrease by 2 cups each day? It won't always be 2 cups, just depends on how much I have when I have it.

When you look at the excel sheet for the new modifications go to 2-7-12 to start with. The first days are when I didn't have the INDEX MATCH set up.
