I have a spreadsheet with many formulas linked to another spreadsheet, both of which are kept in the same folder. Both spreadsheets were created by a volunteer on his laptop computer. Whenever a change is necessary that I cannot do, I'll email the file to him, he makes changes, and emails it back. I then save it to the folder and overwrite the old one. Every time I open this one spreadsheet, it requires that the links be updated in order to read the information from the other. When I click on Update Values and go to the file to which the formulas are linked, even after it updates and says OK, the path of the "linked to" spreadsheet still reflects the path on the volunteer's computer. How do I make these links stay linked to this spreadsheet?

The links are very vulnerable. I have faced similar situations. All you need to do is - before clicking on update values, change the path to reflect where your 2nd file is saved and then update values.
Another workaround is - if this task of sending the file to your colleague happens pretty often, you can ask him to map his file path like yours. So then the links wont change.

Although it took a long time to process, I followed the "Change Source" route and that seems to have worked.
