Unable to copy formula into another cell in same sheet

Hello all,

I'm using excel 2007 and I'm unable to copy formula from one cell to another cell in same sheet.

for example if I put some formula in A2 cell and now I copy it from A2 cell by Ctrl+C and simply paste it by Ctrl+V into B2 it copy A2 cell value instead of formula.

Which is your formula, in A2?

Do you use the dollar sign($), for this?

Hi,
no special formula. for example if i use sum formula without any $ sing and one more thing when i copy any cell it not bilking. Normally if we copy any cell it's highlited with bilking cursor but in my excel it's not happening.

is it some clipboard error or something else?

You probably have Skype Click to Call plug in installed in your browser. It is messing up clipboard functionality. Uninstall that plug in or make sure your browser is closed while working in Excel.

Hi, I just joined this forum because I have the same problem. I recently installed office 2007 onto my new Windows 7 Home Premium machine, and if I try to copy a formula from one cell to a range (eg: a column) I get a message saying the "Data in the Clipboard is not the same shape and size as the selected area...", and then it either pastes the result of the copied cell, or does nothing. Going to the Paste button in the Clipboard area of the ribbon shows "formula" greyed out (as are most other options). Following your advice, I tried closing Skype completely and then opening Excel. This was after going through all the skype menus looking for "click to call", but couldn't find it. Sadly the problem has not changed. Anything else come to mind ? (NB: I've used Excel since about 1990, so am pretty familiar with it. This has only come up since switching to W7 from XP Pro). Thanks.

ps: I thought the $ sign was for anchoring a cell or column (or both) so a reference cell remained the reference.

You're a star ! I just re-read the "in your browser", so checked Chrome and there it was -> disabled it = all fine now ! Super-many thanks !

I am a user of EXCEL 2010 and see both of the same problems. When I close Internet Explorer, evertything works fine. So, the question is how do I turn off Skype Click to Call plug in?
