Trouble with adding hours and minutes

I use excel to provide a work schedule for my employees (cell format is h:mm) and is broken down into morning/afternoon/evening shifts. I total the hours for each shift and the total for the employee which works fine. However, I also want to add up the total hours worked for all the employees in that group for the day as well as the total employees for the day, but the formula will not allow totals over 24 hours. There must be a solution for this, but I can't find it. In a nutshell, if I have three employees in a group and one works 7:30 hours and another works 10:15 hours and another works 9:45 hours, I want to be able to total the group and see that 27:30 hours were worked. How do I do this?

Have you tried formatting the totals cell with - [hh]:mm

Format the output cell as custom -> [h]:mm and they try again. thanks.
