Excel does not move from "save as"

    Hi and good morning

I have excel 2007. I have a largish file 52k x AC. I can save via Ctrl S. Blue circle and it's saved. But if I go to save via the file button it takes a long time and now as I type it has not cleared. and I am no a fast typist. If I open Windows task manager I am using 1.96GB out of 4 and 0% CPU. My only option is to close and save again on close. There must be several threads on this already. Have looked but not found any. If a moderator could direct me or if there none then i will make notes and start one. I have a reasonable machine. I know I should have more RAM.

    Mark

Do you have enough free space on your hard drive? Have you tried saving it on an external drive or flash drive with enough capacity and seeing it takes as long?

I have to make a serious set of notes about the memory issue with Excel as i have seen some other posts elsewhere. I have solved the above issue because i constantly saved the file so when i closed it i could re-open it. It would then run normally for some time before seeming to "clog up" again. Stupid of me as my machine can take up to 32GB of Ram so perhaps I should buy some. It would then be OK but only with brute force not the finesse of setting it up correctly. thanks anyhow and have a great day as the Americans say.

I don't like the 'brute force' approach. It's better to look for the bottle necks and resolve them accordingly.

    1) Maybe try moving your formulas to change_events and only leave the resulting value in the cell.
    2) Remove unneeded formatting, especially conditional formatting
    3) Make sure you don't have any dead space in your worksheet (unused rows/ columns) that are taking up memory.

    Hope this helps.
