autofill handle stop working excel 2010

the autofill handle just stopped working...i didn't change anything, i was working on a spreadsheet and it just quit. when i double click the handle (box), nothing happens.
i have checked, and rechecked the advanced settings, and its turned on.....

can anybody help?

Hi Plumbingdeals and welcome to the forum.

Go to excel options - advanced - and make sure the enable fill handle and cell drag and drop is checked.

Can you upload a sample of the workbook you are having the issue?

the actual workbook is gone...i deleted it trying to solve the problem, but here is a samble i just created

The autofill is working for me.

for example, if i enter a formula in c1, i want to fill that formula down,

It seems that in the "formulas" ribbon, the "calculation options" got changed to manual. when I changed it to automatic, it seems to be working as before.

As I don't remember EVER changing this, would opening a workbook created by someone else, have caused this to reset?

In any case, it would appear the problem is solved!

Help!

The fill handle option is enabled and calculation option is set to automatic. But my fill handle is STILL not working properly.

There is a date column on this spreadsheet and I've even double-checked to make sure it's formatted as a date. When I drag the fill handle, it's simply copying the same date in each cell down the column. It isn't incrementing the date as I would expect.

So, I tried to help Excel by filling in the first two dates for it. It just copies over the 2nd date with the first date and keeps copying that first date all the way down the column.

VERY ANNOYING. I didn't really want to have to fill in each of these cells with the date! Such a simple task with the fill handle working properly.

By the way, if I open a blank sheet, the fill handle works perfectly with a date. So, it HAS to be something within this spreadsheet itself.

Can anyone assist?

After further digging I have discovered that the sheet has a filter applied and if I clear the filter, it works.

What is up with that?!?
