If your problem is solved, pls mark the thread SOLVED (see Thread Tools in the menu above). Thank you!
If you think design is an expensive waste of time, try doing without ...
Is the sheet protected? You will know if it is protected if you double-click. A Message Box will pop up that says:
The cell or chart you are trying to change is protected and therefore read-only.
To modify a protected cell or chart, first remove protection using the Unprotect Sheet command. You may be prompted for a password.
When I double click, the word or number I am trying to change is framed in blue.
can you upload the workbook for us to take a look at?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

I added the new workbook to the desktop and tried to paste it but to no avail. [above]
Click the button [Go Advanced] at the bottom right of this page. On the next page click [Manage Attachments].
From there you can upload the workbook.
Workbook6.xlsx
This does not look right.
Try this one.
I opened the file on both a Mac (Office 2011) and my PC (Office 2007) and was able to edit the cell just fine. It might be an error on your machine. If I recall correctly, there is a way to Rebuild/Repair Microsoft products:
Maybe that will help fix the problem?Go to Control Panel. If Windows XP, open Add/Remove Programs. If Windows 7, open Programs and Features.
Click on Office 2010 and run the Repair option.

It is Office 2011 on a Mac. Any fix available?
I would try re-installing Office 2011. That is my only guess. Sorry.
You shouldn't lose any personally created files - obviously backup any of your work before re-installing. Also, any custom Add-Ins or settings that you use would be gone. You would have to re-install/re-set those as well. If you installed any fonts in the Microsoft Font library you should back up those too.
Can't think of anything else at the moment, but there may be more - maybe someone else who knows Macs better than I do has some more insight.

After re-installing i still have the same problem.I can't find a phone # for Microsoft Support.
Try here: Office 2011 Mac Support
nothing should happen to your files, but to be on the safe side, if you save them inside the "office" folder (which is not the default) move then to some place else. you can then retrieve them when you have reinstalled
Before you start re-installing things, can you check something in the settings (see menu Extra->Options and then select the edit tab.
The checkbox "direct cell editing" should be enabled. If I disable that option I can't type directly in a cell, but I can still edit the contents of the cell thru the formula bar.
I'm not sure about the naming of the option (my excel is Dutch), but I'm sure you can find it and check it.
In Excel 2010 this should be in Files -> Options -> Advanced.
I'm not familiar with Mac, but I assume it will be in the same place.
