    charts get too big

    I've been copying charts from excel to word docs for years. Suddenly the excel charts got very big, extending off the screen sometimes. And the word docs with even 1 chart are very/too big. EX a 460kb excel workbook with several charts. Copy 1 chart to a blank word doc and the word doc file size may be 440kb.
    I've done something wrong or hit a key or ??
    Thanks;

    Yes, too big. Typical word doc size with 1 chart is ~ 35kb.

    Re: charts get too big

    An excel file of 403kb has much data and several charts. I copied 1 chart to a blank word doc, and the word doc is 461kb. When i click "copy" in excel I get the message "the picture is too large and will be truncated". After copying, Alt e drops down an "undo paste" box, l blacks out/negatives the chart and s makes the chart go away leaving an s only on the word doc.
    It seems that excel is making great big charts on its own.
    Thanks;

    I wonder if there are too many temporary files on your system. Maybe Office isn't "cleaning up" after itself as it should.

    You could try a clean up utility like Ccleaner from www.piriform.com

    Get the FREE version and run it with default settings.

    Either there's no free version or it's well hidden.
    Any hints?
    Thanks;

    Re: charts get too big

    The site has changed a bit but there is still a free version. Go to Piriform and you will see a picture of a house and a listing with Ccleaner. Click on Ccleaner. You will be taken to a page with a large green button labelled DOWNLOAD. (Click on the Mac link if you are running a Mac). The next page will have on the left will have Ccleaner Free. Click on that. Choose the site to download from and click DOWNLOAD...follow the prompts from there.

    excel charts too big in word

    Once again I can't find the topic I posted here. I cc cleaned and still, went to an excel file of 406kb, copied one chart to an empty word file and the word file is 459kb.
    Any hints?
    Why does the topic go away?
    Thanks;

    Re: excel charts too big in word

    Try pasting the chart as a 'picture' using paste special.

    Thank you both.
    Saving as a picture turned size from 456kb to 24 kb.
    Going into tools, chart got the excel charts to be small/er again.
    Thanks for getting me out of trouble.
