Hey there folks.
We are experiencing a huge problem all day and I wanted to see if anybody here had any advice.
We have an Excel 2010 doc called the GSOP with macros that we use for all our operations. When I try to open any of these docs, it gets to the Start screen that asks to Enable Macros, but as soon as you click yes you get this error:
An Unexpected error has occurred. AutoRecover has been disabled for this session of excel. (See Attachment 1)
As soon as you hit OK, excel crashes and has to be closed.
I have tried other files, that I know have opened properly within the last 24 hours, and every file is the same, so it leads me to think this is a system or server path issue.
I have been searching all over several forums and they all say to look at the AutoRecover settings, which look normal (See Attachment 2)
The strangest part of all this is that the same error happens with:
• All users - everybody is experiencing this error
• All computers and laptops (15)
• Only GSOP files seem to be impacted – (has macros), other excel docs open fine, all other programs and files are good
• This occurs from all GSOP files including old(not used for 6 months), new files (used daily) and even the templates that are used to make a new GSOP
• Interesting that as of 8:30pm last night everything was good, all GSOP files opened as normal. when we arrived today none of them worked
• Tried copying to local drive with the same result
• Online forums say to change the file name and path length or change your default printer????? – tried both with the same error.
• Interesting when we look into the xlsstart (where the Autorecovery for excel is kept) menu non of the GSOP’s are listed here.
• We are now able to open a select few GSOP’s
All GSOP files exist on a local server which has constant cloud backups
Tried several reboots of the system which did NOT help.
I am not worried about our data, all the files are there, just none of them will open, which is a major problem. How can this error happen to most GSOP files, at the same time, to all users, on all different computers.
I suspect it may be the macros that are causing the crash (but the macros have functioned properly for months) and seems to be related to the servers/Network locations in some way.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated and would really get us out of a jam!!!
Thanks,
Andrew
