Hello
I work at a job where I have to link a lot of cells, but I usually have to flip between worksheets to decide which data I can link. For example, I have a long list of values to be filled in on sheet 1, but sheet 2 only has some of the values. I look at sheet 2 to decide which value on sheet 1 to write =CELL FROM SHEET 2 in. Is there a way to do this backwards -- like forward link? That way I can look at a cell in sheet 2, execute function/keyboard command, and click the appropriate cell in sheet 1 so that =CELL FROM SHEET 2 appears. Obviously I can cut and paste, but i do this enough that a shortcut would make my day.
Also, I can't use macros for whatever reason.
Thanks in advance for any repsonses.
Good afternoon sime
Macros are the way.
Alternatively try this trick. Go to Window > New Window.
This will create two “instances” of the same sheet. Now go to Window > Arrange, Horizontal and click OK. You will now have two instances of the same file viewable on one screen. Go to Sheet1 and the top file, and Sheet2 on the bottom file, and you will see that it is far easier to link cells when you can see both tabs on screen at the same time.
When done close one instance of the file (without saving), then save and close the other one.

Dear DominicB
Thanks for your reply -- I feel a little noobish (which I am) that this nice solution is simply a matter of smarter viewing. At my work the VB environment won't load and I haven't been here long enough to really find out why (i.e. if it's a work thing or just a my-computer thing). I've done a fair bit of split screen stuff as well that's similar (when in the same worksheet), but I find it starts to bug my eyes because the monitor is not terribly large. Perhaps I'm stuck unless I can get macros to work.
Thanks very much,
Simon
