    Phone Numbers

    Windows 7
    MS Excel 2007

I have formatted a column to: Special>Phone Number.
When I enter a phone number, it should show up as (555) 555-5555
Instead, it comes up (5) 555-5556
In the bar just above the cells, it shows 55555555.55
The only way I can get the number to come up correctly is to add a period at the end of the number.
    Can you help me here?
    Thank you.

Go to the Office Button and click Excel Options

Select Advanced from the left pane

and then uncheck the 2nd checkbox... Automatically insert a decimal point.

    Re: Phone Numbers

    Thank you !
    That worked just right.
I noticed after doing this that the number fomatted cells now come up differently.
I'm assuming I just need to change that for the phone numbers just long enough to enter them and then go back to automatically entering a decimal.
Whatever the case, it works great
    Thanks again.

    Re: Phone Numbers

That is a global option.. it will apply to all worksheets and all workbooks you open.

I am thinking it is better to leave that option unchecked (it may come back to haunt you again) and then reformat the other cells to make them 2 Numbers with 2 decimals or whatever to make them "appear" as before...
