Hi
I export data from Pastel into Excel and combine accounts from various entities into one set of books via excel.
My problem is i have approximately 50 - 70 different sub sections which must total up at the bottom.
Unfortunately the descriptions for each line in teh section are not the same so i cant use Sub Total, is there a way i can mark or lable the cell or row of cells so that in my final total at teh bottom i can say for eg total up all cells in the column that labled total or something???
I really appreciate any help i can get.
thanks
john
John - I have done this multiple times in Excel for creating financial statements. Can you put up a sample file or send me a private email and I can help you.

Hi thanks
I have taken my spreadsheet and deleted a lot of data and all the actual figures and have included fictitious data.
Basically i am looking for a formula that will add all the YELLOW rows (which are subtotals) together at the bottom of the sheet.
Of course i could just go "=D72+D80+D89..." but am convinced there must be a better more efficient method.
any and all help greatly appreciated.
thanks
John
I used the SUMIF function - POWERFUL for financial reporting purposes. Take a look at it - it's easy to duplicate. My financial statements would perish without SUMIF. I am working on an Excel template for doing what you are working on in this example - export from whatever accounting package you are using and then quickly making financial statements from there. Send me an email if you would like a copy when I am done (hoping get version 1 out over the Christmas - New Year holiday.

PS Sumif works horizontally too!![]()
