How to replace the numerical result of a formula with text

    Hi everyone

I have attached a workbook. It denotes the progress of people across a range of 4 levels (Starting, Developing, Reaching and Exceeding) over three Assessment points towards a target which is also one of these 4 levels. The workbook tries to show the progress of each person towards that target using the color key below each Point. I have given each level a numerical value, 10-40 to allow me to calculate progress using a simple percentage calculation to match the key. What i have though is level followed by calculation number followed by level followed by calculation etc and its a bit unwieldy....

What would be ideal is if I could remove the numbers from the cells and instead simply have the level in the box 'Starting' etc' in a color coded cell.

I know its extremely clunky but my Excel skills are practically non existent. Any kind help from any of you would be hugely appreciated especially in refining what i've done so far!!!!!!

    Thank you so much

    E

If I understand correctly the attached should have the approximate conditional formatting that you are looking for. The largest deviation is in point 2 where some guesses were made in regard to replacing the Gradients. The formulas for the conditional formatting rules for the 'Point' columns all reference the corresponding cells in the 'Progress' columns that follow (I hope that makes sense). The 'Progress' columns are hidden not deleted.
    * The file is being returned as an .xlsx since your profile says you are using Excel 2010.
