    Hi,
The simplest way to set your scroll area would be this
At the top menu, select View=>toolbars=>Control Toolbox then select the properties icon, from there you will see a place to set you scroll area,
    enter something like:
    A1:G20

Another way would be to hide the columns and rows that are not being used, or you don't want viewed..
Select the 1st empty column and press "Shift+end+right arrow", all the columns should be selected, goto format, columns, select hide, do the same for rows...

There are also Keyboard shortcuts to hide rows and columns
    Ctrl+0 will hide selected columns
    Ctrl+Shift+0 will unhide selected columns
    Ctrl+9 will hide selected rows
    Ctrl+Shift+9 will unhide selected rows
Select rows or columns that are hidden by selecting the rows or columns around them, or just select the entire sheet and then unhide the hidden rows or columns,

Yes it works BUT when I save the file and then open it again, the scroll lock is gone.

What is necessary to save the scroll area lock so it will be there when the file is opened again.

Thanks in advance for your help

Sorry: However, I don't see how to start a new thread. Maybe I am making this harder than it is. Please advise.

You can use the big, orange "Post new thread" button at the top of the forum view.

Perhaps I am blind, but there is no orange button or any "post new thread" link. I search a long time before contacting you. I am using Windows 7 and IE 9. Please advise.

The button is visible at the top of each forum, not in a thread. Open the forum into which you want to post your question. Hit the button.
