    Sumproduct

I am unable to understand the below formula.

    =SUMPRODUCT(--(issueCloseDates=""),--(issuePriorities="high"))&" High"

'issueCloseDates' and 'issuePriorities' refers to a range of cells.
But what is meant by '--' in the formula???
