I am using excel 2003. I have locked and unlocked celsl on the same sheet.
I have protected the sheet. I can enter data into the unlocked cells. But I can't
BOLD the text in the unlocked cells.
Is there anyway to allow the user to bold the text in the unlocked cells in a protected sheet?
Thanks,
BiggSmiles
Hi BiggSmiles,
Here's the quick way.. while protecting the sheet, check on the options which says... "Format Cells".
Let me know if this helps.

DILIPandey,
Thanks for the reply. "format Cells" is grayed out becuase the sheet is locked. What I need for the user is to beavle to click on the BOLD button adn bold the text.
I have a work around by programming a POPUP menu with options to do the Bolding.
Would really like to do awya with the POPUP menu.
Do you have any idea why cell formatting is turned off on unlocaked cells in a protected Sheet?
Thanks again for your reply.
Hey BiggSmiles,
I believe you missed the key message, below would help you to reach to that:-
you have protected the locked and unlocked the cells at the same time.
you will protect the sheet.
while protecting the sheet, there is an option "Format Cells", check that. This will enable a user to format cells (unlocked cells) when the worksheet is protected. Bold comes under formatting.
done.
Let me know if you still have any queries, I will explain this through a attachment. Thanks.
