Question Export Each Row as a Text File?

    Hello!

I need to export each row of a spreadsheet as a text document. The spreadsheet is very simple, with only one column. I really don't care about the naming convention for the files, I just need the information in the row to be exported into a text file. I don't have any macros experience but I think that this is the only way to get this to work. This is for work and I'm stuck on a project until this is solved, so please help!

    Thanks in advance!

    -Erin

Hi Erin and welcome to the forum,

You need to simply need to click on the sheet that you want to save as text. Then do a Save from the Icon Menu and save it as CSV text file. You will need to give the file a name and path in the dialog box.

You might be asked if you want to save the whole workbook or only the current sheet. You will check current sheet. Easy Peasy!!

See http://www.extendoffice.com/document...-csv-file.html for the Save As list.

Thank you for the suggestion but I think I was unclear about what I need. I need to export every individual row into it's own Text file. I have about 2000 rows so I will end up with 2000 spreadsheets. I hope this clarifies things! :D

Absolutely not! That is like taking 5 steps backwards from having it in Excel. Perhaps you need to explain your problem with a sample file so we can understand what your real need is.

I have a very simple spreadsheet with only one column and about 2000 rows. Each row has one URL. I need to have each URL in it's own text file because I am writing a script that requires it. I don't think I can be any clearer than that.

Re: Export Each Row as a Text File?

Why don't you leave all those hyperlinks in Excel and simply double click on them to take you to the website? That seems like a lot more efficient than dealing with 2000 different files. Do you have a naming convention for all of those different text files?

Do you know about hyperlinks? Read:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...005209116.aspx

You can even have a "friendly name" for each one.

Re: Export Each Row as a Text File?

Let me explain my script more fully. My script is creating a unique QR Code for each URL, when the code is scanned it takes the customer to the URL. I need to be able to place a file containing one URL into the folder that runs my script to trigger it. The script processes each file on it's own, so it is quite efficient. The only thing tripping me up is getting each URL into it's own text file without writing a new script or doing a ridiculous amount of copy paste work. I have seen macros close to what I need but I don't know enough about Excel macros to tweak them to fit my very simple needs.
