    Office Web Components in 2007?

I'm having a bit of an issue with OWC in 2007. I know they have been deprecated but I was under the impression, form many places including MS themself, that you could install them. I downloaded this file

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

and then the SP1 2007 file here

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

All seems to go well and there seems to be a appropriate .dll in c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Components\11\1033 by the name of OWCI11.DLL. However when I attempt to add a reference to that file in a VBA project in Excel (it's one that has an old broken reference to 2003 OWC) by browsing to that file it tells me

"Can't add a reference to the specified file"

What have I done wrong? Is what I am attempting, getting 2007 to use OWC, even possible? Note I did not write any of the code for this Excel Add-in so have very little idea about what OWC are for.

Re: Office Web Components in 2007?

From looking around on the web it appears that I have to install that 2003 OWC Add-In first before applying that 2007 OWC SP 1 file. Indeed if I try to apply the SP first I get an error like
"There are no products affected by this package installed on this system"
so it needs that 2003 OWC Add-In installed first. The versioning on the files is of the form '12.*' rather than '11.*' so it seems like that would be fine in 2007. I'm not really sure how to check if it works in 2003 other than going on what has been said elsewhere, which to be honest wasn't exactly said with confidence.

This one is about how to get OWC working in Sharepoint 2007 but for the client they tell you get that same 2003 file

If OWC cannot work in Office 2007 at all why do they have a 2007 SP for OWC? I'm guessing that it gets OWC working in 2007 for certain uses but not all and unfortunately in my case not for referencing? Or does that make no sense at ll?

    Hi,

when I attempt to add a reference to that file in a VBA project in Excel (it's one that has an old broken reference to 2003 OWC) by browsing to that file it tells me

"Can't add a reference to the specified file"
Did you try to add a reference or to add a owc control in the workbook ?

I just tried to add a reference via Tools->References in the VBA editor.

    Hi,

Which OWC object is used in your add-in (chartspace, spreadsheet, pivottable) ?
Try to replace the object in the project rather than add a reference.

It appears that yesterday that is exactly what the dude in charge of the add-in did. So this is fixed!
