Polling website data from Excel without VBA

    Hey guys:

    Newbie here.

    I don't have VBA.

As a part of my business, I regularly ship stuff that is a part of an order. An Order has a order number and a name. To access the status of it, one simply goes to a website, type in the name and order number, and they can see the status of it (Pending, Received, Accepted (pending payment,) Received (rejected,) or Received (Paid.))

In my spreadsheet, I have a column that has the order number, and I also have a column that has the tracking number.

Is there a way that I can do one of two things?

    1. Set up some type of program with my spreadsheet where it automatically updates itself from the Order information so I can know the status of it (and perhaps could I do the same thing with the tracking numbers, if I cannot use the Order number/name combination?)
    2. Hyperlink the order number and/or the tracking number so I can click on it to see the status? Each order number is different, but the last name would always be the same. So, the hyperlink would have a different order number that I would type in the cell, but all of the other information (website, link, and last name) would be the same.

    Thanks for the help!

@ Jeremy...you don't have to create multiple duplicated of your thread..

    Tips:

Welcome to the forum since your new to the forum may i suggest you to attach a real workbook. Typing data from a picture or paste text from your post into a spreadsheet as a hindrance to helping. To attach a file, push the button with the paperclip (or scroll down to the Manage Attachments button), browse to the required file, and then push the Upload button.
I think people forget the word "THANK YOU!!!!" Do you still know it???

There is a little star ( ADD REPUTATION ) below those person who helped you. Click it to say your "PRIVATE APPRECIATION TO THEIR EFFORT ON THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS "

Re: Polling website data from Excel without VBA

    Hi there:
    Thanks for answering.

I found that I do have VBA in my Excel, and have been playing around with it.

I have two questions, both related to the screen shot I attached.

    Question #1.

Is there a way that I can take the numbers from the first column and have a query run with them on a certain website (Bookscouter.com?) When one of these numbers is put in, a screen will come up with 16 different prices from 16 different vendors. I’d like to find a way to have this done and, if there are any greater-than-zero numbers, to have Excel email me after it stores each one in a separate cell. I’m about to start uploading about 1,000 numbers per day, and these values can change each day. If something goes positive, I would like to get an email.

    Question #2.

Under the column “Buyback Order #,” there is a order number where I can check the status by going to the website http://www.valorebooks.com/sell-stuff, putting in my last name (James) and the order number. At that point, a screen will pop up with the status of that order. Next to the word “Status,” there is a field that can have up to 5 answers (Pending, Received, Received (Awaiting Payment,) Received (Rejected,) Received (Paid.) Can I set up Excel to automatically poll this site to update my orders on a daily basis? By default, my rows are in White, but I’d like if it goes to Received, for them to go to Yellow, and then if/when it goes to Received – Paid, I’d like for it to go to green.

    Thanks so much!

    Jeremy
