Prompt user for date range upon startup

I have an excel workbook that is pulling from several odbc databases. Every ten minutes a new value is recorded, and stored in the databases. Then there is a sheet in the workbook that analysis the data based on a variable date range entered in two cells (one start, one finish). I want to have a macros that prompts the user to select the range with a dialog box before the databases are loaded, so that once they grow into huge piles of data, I won't have to wait ten minutes for them to load. Is there away to accomplish this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Also my extent of macros know how is very basic, and I haven't played in VBA in a little over a year, so I have a feeling that this is going to be very fun!

if anyone is interested I created a macro that displays a msgbox that allows the user to select a date range and then edits the connection properties accordingly
