Macros & Toolbars

Please Register to Remove these Ads

Hi,

I have created my first wookbook (just to let you know that I'm very new to this) I created a wookbook in MSO 2003, but now running it on 2007. It was far easier to create custom tool bars in 2003! however the toolbars now appear in 2007 under 'add ins' and work fine with the macros that I have recorded and assigned to them. I now wish to distribute this wookbook so that users can use as a template and 'save as' a different file name each time they use it. Problem is: when saved as different file name the macros assigned to the custom toolbars move with it, and when the template is re-opened and a macro called the new file opens. I think, reading through here that the custom toolbars (add ins) need to be opened and deleted on opening/closing the file? This would be fine as they are not required for any other excel functions.

So is it possible to have custom tool bars with assigned macros saved each time with the file?

many thanks in advance
Chris

Re: Macros & Toolbars

I am a Excel 2003 user so I am not sure about Excel 2007. Is there a feature in Excel 2007 like the XLStart folder. If you put a workbook in that folder, Excel will open it every time it starts. That can be used to hold commonly used macros. Do a help on XLSTART

Thanks Bob, that would work fine on my machine - but if the wookbook is distributed then other users would suffer the same issues? As the 'other' users are not at all used to working with exel,, othet than to type in data in required fields, I need something that is 'bullet proof' and not fall over!

Re: Macros & Toolbars

You could give all of the users the workbook that has your macros in it and put it in the XLSTART folder. then you would have to have them define the shortcut keys and/or custom tools for them. I am not sure where Excel keeps the definition of the shortcuts and toolbars. If you could find the file, maybe that could be copied as well, but that would probably wipe out any setting that they already had.

Re: Macros & Toolbars

Thanks again, I think I would still have problems with the custom toolbar. This I am sure requires a code for opening and deleting each time the file opened/closed? I did read somewhere on here a similar thread, explaining this but can't seem to find it now!

Don't think I can help you further. I suggest you close this thread and start a new one on the same topic. I won't respond, so someone else is more likely to pick it up with no responses.
