    finding a value and return the cells name

    Hi there,

    I'm fairly new to the world of excel and am wondering if I could get some help with a formula for this problem.

    What I'm trying to do is:
    Within a cell, return the name of the cell containing a value within another cell within a different workbook.

    This is whats running through my brain;

    Within cell A5 find value within cell A3
    Search for value found in A3 within a seperate workbook
    Return "cell name" that contains value within A3

    I hope this is enough information! I really wish I could provide sample codes, but I find myself running in circles with lookup and match... Really lost here haha...

    Thankyou kindly,
    Gavel

    Is this a function you want to type in or a macro? If you are going to a different workbook it would need to be a macro, but if it is just another worksheet a function may work.
    What do you mean "Within cell A5 find value within cell A3"?
    By cell name do you mean cell address like "A1"?
    Is your code running too slowly?
    Does your workbook or database have a bunch of duplicate pieces of data?
    Have a look at this article to learn the best ways to set up your projects.
    It will save both time and effort in the long run!
