Hello,
I have created an .xlam (Excel add-in in Excel 2007) which is being referenced by various users.
We are encountering 2 issues:
(1) I have kept the .xlam on a shared drive and have asked users to reference it from there rather than saving it to the 'Add-Ins' folder -- as is requested when user makes the initial reference. But, often times the reference is lost. So, the next time the user opens Excel they have to re-reference it. How can I set this up so it always saves the reference?
(2) All users are getting the warning: 'Microsoft Office has identified a potential security concern' -- how can we set up security on the add-in so they don't get this? Sign it? Or must our admins make the folder where the add-in is located open to everyone? Everyone can reference it from that folder.
Thanks for any help.
Greatly appreciated,
Dan

2) it's against Forum Rules to discuss ways around this, but if it is correctly installed, which it sounds as if it isn't, then you don't get that message
Hope that helps.

Hello,
Thanks for posting. We have implemented the solution you mentioned in step 1 and are still getting the 'Microsoft Office has identified a potential security concern'.
Could you offer more information on what it means to be 'correctly installed'. I'm not sure how else to install it beside using the steps you provided in step 1.
Thanks for your help with this.
Greatly appreciated,
Dan
Roy may have another suggestion, but here's mine:
Get a digital code-signing certificate from VeriSign or other provider (about $500/year), and use it to sign the VBA project. The first time your users install the add-in, the signature gets verified with VeriSign (they must be online), and they will be prompted to enable macros. if they do, they will be further prompted whether to always trust you (i.e., your certificate) as a publisher. And if they do that, they will not be prompted again.

I suspect you have activeX controls which are responsible for the message.
Verisign is the option, but it will not secure the addin. I think you can use Trusted Folders on a network and Excel versions 2007 & above
Hope that helps.
