... and format as you wish.

Or select column and go to Data|Text to Column.... skip to 3rd window, select Date and YMD from Drop down...
Click Finish.

I put that in the column next to the first number and then get #VALUE! in the cell
I have a column of dates in the first number format ie 20060520
I need to get the dates in the 05/20/06 format for all the cells.
Since I am new at using formulas i need a simple step by step approach
any help would be appreciated
