    Unhappy Algebraic Formula

    Hello fellow users...

    I'm trying to write a forumla in Excel that can figure out the total production costs against two machines expressed as the following equation where

    Q=an unknown quantity.

    The equation is: 60+16+60Q/10000 +16Q/10000 = 9/2 +12/2 + 9Q/1000 + 12/Q/1000.

    The book I got this equation from comes to answer of: Q=4888.

    My 14 year old daughter figured it out, but the long hand form is waaaay to long to write as a formula in excel.

    Any takers on this one?

    Re: Algebraic Formula

    Welcome to the forum.

    Get her to show you how to solve for Q. Or ask your question at http://mathforum.org/dr.math/

    The alternative is using Solver, which is akin to killing mosquitos with a shotgun.
