Hi all,
Just wondering if I am missing something here. Logging into the 'Programming' section of the forum this morning I saw the notice above the forum threads:
Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do, except for one thing...Phil_V, when you have received a solution to your query or question please take the time to mark your thread solved by going to your post EDIT-GO ADVANCED then at the top of your post you will see the prefix dropdown, just choose SOLVED and then click Save Changes!
Regards,
Site Admin.
I only seem to have an [Edit] button for a few minutes after posting, after which it disappears. What is the correct method for marking a problem as [Solved] ?
Thanks

I too have this problem.
This is being checked now.
Hope that helps.

I'm guessing the instructions were written by someone with 'Admin' priviledges on the forum, whom probably has the [Edit] option available for all posts all the time, but the rest of us lowly users don't have the option to edit :p
[EDIT] Ok, we can edit, but after a few minutes the option seems to disappear. Also, although I just clicked [Edit] on this post, then [Go Advanced], there is no option for a prefix dropdown. I'm guessing that this dropdown is only avialable for the first post in the thread?
If thats the case we better all get our skates on because questions will only be able to be 'Solved' for a matter of minutes after they are first posted :p

There is a time limit for users to Edit threads, I thought it was a few hours. This was introduced because members were deleting posts leaving the thread meaningless.
I'm waiting for Simon to get back on this one
Hope that helps.

Shouldn't this thread be somewhere more appropriate while we're at it?
![]()
Roy: Ok, will wait to hear(Even if it was a few hours, I think quite a few questions take longer than that to be solved completely)
Charlie: Good point, The only reason I posted it in programming was because that was where I saw it. I'm guessing it's a forum wide thing then :p
The issue with the edit button should be resolved!![]()
Not all forums are the same - seek and you shall find
...and so it is
Might be worth mentioning in the notice too that it has to be your opening post, ie. the one at the top of the thread that you edit, not just any post you have made in the thread, as only the opening post will give you the option for the [SOLVED] pre-fix![]()
Doh...
Is this only for threads recently started? I've just had a thread solved in the 'Programming' forum, (Using 'Now()' as a numeric string), that i started a day or so ago. Editing the top post in that thread doesn't have the 'prefix' drop down box, and yet my top post in THIS thread does.
Users have 2 days in which to edit the thread thats why you dont see it in older posts!
Not all forums are the same - seek and you shall find
Aha, understood
In that case, class this thread as........ SOLVED![]()
Very confusing
I cannot find the 'prefix dropdown' in my thread that is solved and I have tried editing it in the first and last posts of the the thread.
I have just received an answer to another post, which I cannot mark as solved until I get time to try it out BUT this thread does not even allow me to go to 'edit-go advanced. It does have an option just to go to 'go advanced' but there is no 'prefix dropdown' in that thread either.
I don't delete threads as my posts hopefully they may be of value to someone else; so why have a time limit to mark them as solved. I am sure not every solution can be checked out in 2 days!
