    Renaming Charts in Excel 2013

    I'm so confused right now.

I am trying to rename a chart in Excel 2013, but it keeps reverting my names. It looks like there might be a 32 character limit on the name length, but I cannot find any documentation supporting this.

In case it's not clear, I'm trying to rename a chart from Chart38 to "Productivity - Tractors CY/OP - Month", but once I press Enter, it changes back to Chart38. If I can shorten the name to less than 32 chars it seems to work, but that will be nearly impossible for some other charts.

    Anyone know what's going on?

How are you trying to apply the name, are you using the Name Box just to the left of the Formula bar?

    If so try using either,
Chart Name textbox on the Layout tab.

Or the selection pane. ALT+F10 should display it. In there will be the shapes and charts on the sheet. You can select and edit name in the task pane.

I was able to use all 37 characters to rename charts

Re: Renaming Charts in Excel 2013

I typically use the Layout tab and rename it there, however in 2013 they removed the Layout tab and consolidated the tools there into a new panel called Chart Elements.

So I've been using the Name area next to the formulas bar in E2013, and it hasn't been working.

However, using Alt + F10 worked perfectly. It seems odd to me that the Name editor next to the formula bar truncates the name, but the selection editor doesn't. Any ideas on why this is happening?

    Thanks for your help!

Looks like the UI to name charts in xl2013 has been removed. Although it is possible to customize the ribbon, from within excel, to add Chart Name back to the layout contextual group.

Not sure why there is a 32 character limit with Name Box.
