    Size of attached images

When I attach an image to a post the forum makes the image much larger than the original.

    See this:

    http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...=1#post4084265

How do you prevent that from happening?

It sucks that you now have to scroll to see the image.

OK, so why does the forum enlarge the image and put it inside a window frame?

    I just used the

"Attachments" section below the post to upload my image...then you can insert it in your thread with that command (which is auto generated)

    ATTACH]398174[/ATTACH]

There is missing a bracket in the beginning to actually show you how the command looks like

The image still gets enlarged for some reason.

    I give up.

    Re: Size of attached images

It appears be your capture-save process, possibly even your screen resolution settings.

What are you using to capture and save?

What is your Display setting (Control Panel>Display).

Here's a method to help determine what's happening. Open a blank worksheet. Click on column letter header boundary (as if adjusting column width by mouse). Info tip will display width of left side column in type points (72nds of an inch) and also pixel width.
    pixels.gif

Same for row height. These pixel dimensions should be cell size in a screen capture. In your posted image, the default cell size is measuring 120x27 pixels. What does Excel report as your default size?

BTW, *.gif image format is typically good enough for Excel captures (anything image up to 256 colors). Provides a smaller file than jpg and no compression artifacts.

Screen resolution is set to 1400 x 1050. I have the res set lower as I have bad vision! The higher the res the smaller the screen object. So, with a lower res the screen objects are larger (easier to see).

    Excel sheets...

    Col width = 8.54
    Row height = 13.50
    Zoom = 100%

    Re: Size of attached images

Your screen resolution setting isn't important... but to check, do a Full-screen Snip, Save, and then check pixel dimensions in file properties. Should be what your resolution is set to.

What I wanted was your Display setting. The default options are Small, Medium, and Large with percentages, but you can also set a custom text size from left side options. Microsoft programs and some others adjust application "zoom" in the background to this setting. It isn't reported in the application window zoom level.

Didn't want the number for column width and row height. Wanted the pixel dimensions. The pixel dimensions are exactly how many pixels the cell widths and heights are on your screen when zoomed 100% (...but Excel doesn't change the reported values when you zoom in and out).

    OK, my setting was large.

Reset to small (default) and took a screencap with the snipping tool.

Let's see how it turns out...

    Re: Size of attached images

    OK, that's slightly better.

Display set to small (default) is ridiculously small!

    EDIT:

    Col width = 120 pixels
    Row height = 27 pixels

Yes, better. Cell sizes appear normal (at least on my end), but your toolbar icons appear large. Did you restart your computer after making the change? Do you have a custom text size set in Display? There use to be window "parts" customization in older versions of Windows, but I haven't had the need to use it for awhile, so don't know if it's even in Win7 or later.

Are those pixel sizes before or after changing?

You can leave Display at Small and drop your screen resolution to make things appear larger on your screen... but it will have side effects of some other programs looking huge. Its a catch 22 situation.

If you just want to keep it the same as you had, and you have an image editing program, you can copy the image in Snipping Tool and paste in the editor and downsize it before posting...

After making the change a message popped up saying I had to logout for the change to take effect. So I did.

I think that's what I'll do. The only image editor I have is Paint (what a piece of junk!).

I'll do some experimenting and see where it goes.

    Here's the first test...

Well that looks pretty good... but you may want to crop the image size down to the capture size.

May not be worth the trouble!

    Some tips...

    Snip your image then Edit>Copy.

Open Paint. Shrink whiteboard (or whatever you call it) to a small size with lower right handle... less than snip size... then Paste. Click outside snip area. Click Resize on toolbar. With both Percentage and Maintain Aspect Ratio ticked, enter 67 in as either horizontal or vertical, then OK out. Save image.
