Scatter plot fill are between vertical lines

Ways of filling gaps (areas) between 2 vertical lines with various colours.

    Hello,

I am new to this forum but over last few weeks I have found a lot of useful tips and explanation which help me a lot in creating all sorts of plots.

Unfortunately I came another challenge which I cannot solve and I cannot find solution on the forum or any other website.

I would like to fill gap between two scatter plot lines.
I know there is a very good website by Jon Peltier where he describes how to fill gaps between lines, but as the gaps I would like to fill are vertical I struggle to do it based on his instructions.

As they say “A picture is worth a thousand words” I have uploaded an image which shows what I am planning to achieve.

I have uploaded my spreadsheet as well.

I have seen number of problems were solved on this forum and I hope somebody will be able to help me with my problem.

You can use one of Jon's approaches, which uses VBA to draw shapes to create the fill.

There is no easy way to create fills when the area is a complex shape

Thanks Andy for confirming something that I was coming around to thinking.

@Flooyd. What in your data determines the upper & lower y axis limits of the painted areas?

@Andy, yes I have tried to use the VBA approach as per Jon´s website, but it did not work in the way I wanted.

@Richard – my mistake, in the example I have attached, I have not added any data to determinate the upper and lower y axis.

When I read comments from both Andy and Richard I thought I am lost and there is no way I will get my plot done.
I started to look deeper and thought maybe my approach was wrong, maybe I should not feel gaps between the lines.

I have found this article prepared by Jon: “Marimekko Charts”
    http://peltiertech.com/marimekko-charts/

After hours of trial and error I have achieved my goal using Marimekko charts and “plotted over” my scatter plot lines as on screen shot.

Well done for persevering and for applying Jon's examples to your data.

As always with Excel charting a lot of design outcomes can be achieved but they really do need a lot of lateral thinking and bending the existing chart functionality into 'shape'.

I'd been contemplating avoiding charts altogether and just using rectangular shape blocks, one for each colour within each 'column' and using a macro to position them relative to some fixed point like the top left position of a cell.
