do rules for moving messages only apply to the inbox?

Do rules only apply to moving messages recieved in the inbox?

i have a folder ( called "keep these") next to inbox so i can drag messages i want to keep from inbox to
this folder which i then periodically clean out by manually moving important messages into
appropriate folders.

unless i am mistaken creating rules only applies to "inbox" . is it possible to apply a rule which
only moves the messages which are in the folder called "Keep these" .

Maybe someone can help? or give me some VBA code to do the job?

After a little study, it looks like rules don't need to be for your Inbox only.. Read these two links for more specifics.

I've never worked with the VBA behind Outlook rules as my focus is Excel and Access.

Perhaps one of the Office Outlook guru's can help with this question.

Rules that run automatically are applied to incoming and outgoing messages.

Run rules on a folder, manually, with "Run Rules Now". Set up the rule. Uncheck, so the rule is not automatically applied.

If you go the VBA route, still ensure the rule is not checked.
