Understanding Query Design with respect to building an Append Query

    Hi,

I have some confusions about building an Append Query (As I understand--For the purpose of creating a new table with Data from other existing tables in your Database).

I believe part of my confusion stems from the fact that I am working with a Database that someone has built and I am trying to work backwards to demystify How their Queries were created...

    1. When I look at the SQL Query View it's very Long and confusing to Pick apart so I Rely on Design View. In the Design View I am assuming a table I am viewing was created and abbreviated as something else, like let's say it's renamed*t and what is strange is that in that Table, the fields seem to be a combination/hybrid of 2 or more tables from the Database.

    2. When I look at the Object Dependencies It shows *t table name as MISSING (Kind of Like Non-Existent).

Issue : I want to basically build a Query that Appends Data to an Existing(Empty--no data) table. But the information I need to populate the Empty table lies in two to three other tables in the database.

Can Any one give me a video link or resource I can use to accomplish this?

    Example:
-My New appended table will need to have a column that calculates Dates (Like Previous Year, Previous Quarter) BUT I have another table in the Database which will have the Dates already in it in order to supplement the logic for the append query...

Re: Understanding Query Design with respect to building an Append Query

I believe that you will need to supply us with

    1. the layout of the empty table
    2. the layout of the 3 tables holding the data you wish to use as a source
    3. the fields in each of the 3 tables you wish to append to the empty table.

With this information, someone here might be able to assist in building an append query.
