Linking sequential spreadsheets and accessing updated data in the final spreadsheet withou

Dear Sir / Madam,

I wish to link data from a single Spreadsheet A to multiple spreadsheets B’s and I want to link data from multiple spreadsheets (a few hundred) B’s to a single Spreadsheet C.
I wish to open spreadsheet A and spreadsheet C and find the updated data in spreadsheet C without having to open multiple spreadsheet B’s to achieve the updated version of Spreadsheet C.
What file format should I save the A, B and C files in and how can I achieve access to the updated data in spreadsheet C without opening the multiple spreadsheet B’s?
