Excel Survey like Google Forms

I need to create an Excel Survey that operators at my manufacturing plant can enter data into daily to populate a database. The survey questions will be:

Todays Date - Would like to use the =today() formula
Part Number - Will require data validation from a selected list of part numbers
Defect Type - They can choose one or more; cracked, split, bent, dimensional
Area - Will require radio button for one choice; production, quality, shipping

The operators will continuously be answering this survey throughout the day. The survey needs to populate an excel sheet one line item at a time. Basically a database.

Can I do this easily or do I need to learn VBA or MS Access? Or just move our platform to Google Docs for this specific task? I want it in Excel, preferably.

Hi howaboutno and welcome to the forum,

It seems to me you simply need to add records to a table to do this in Excel. Then grouping or filtering or sorting or even Pivot Tables will be easy to do later.

I'd look at an old tool that is still in Excel. It is called Data Form and can be added to the Quick Access Toolbar. Read about it at:

I did experiment with the data form. Thanks for the suggestion. The issue is that the data form entry dialog is too basic. It only allows text entry and does not have any function for data validation, radio buttons, and things like that.

The operators who will be entering info into this database have to be given very limited options, and preferably NO access to the Excel sheet. I just want them to see a survey like you'd see on Google Forms. I know the obvious answer is "Well use Google Forms then" but I want to know if I can do it in Excel without VBA.

If VBA is needed I'll have to learn it on some YouTube vids.

You can use data validation on a regular sheet that allows you to specify certain parameters or values that get entered into the cell. Go to the Data Menu>Data Validation.

I guess I can't complain if it's free but that form definitely doesn't allow radio button selection or multiple checkbox selection. I think Google Forms might be the easiest route to take.

Hi ther op, Did you end up using Forms or did you sort it in Excel. I need a very similar task & like you would prefer excel as I have a subscription? Cheers
