Edit posts not working

I see that the edit posts button still plays up (tried 11 times to edit a post and got a white box back each time (it was an edit of a previously edited post if it makes any difference, although the original spelling edit doesn't show as an edit)).

I decided to leave it in the end as the original post had the gist and wasn't worth doing a new reply.

It was in the programming forum (it edits fine here as this proves).

I thought I would raise it again just in case it has gone off the radar.

I have just experienced this for the first time this morning- also in the Programming forum, although I do not know if that is coincidence. I am using Opera if that could be relevant, but have not encountered this problem before today.

Is it related to the frequent timeouts and error messages that seem to be occurring for the last few hours? I am presuming that is not just affecting me since other websites seem to load without issue.

It appears that only certain posts are affected but I cannot as yet fathom a common factor. It does only appear to affect posts with code, but not all such posts.

It is possibly also slightly affected by Post size.
I often Post large Posts.
The problem occurs so often with me that I use the work around as standard :

_ - Basically the work around is:
you Hit Reply With Quote ,
then copy all from between the Quotes ,
then abort, ( Cancel )
then Hit Edit.

If then the problem crops up and you are then faced with a blank screen you can paste what you have in. Occasionally you also get a weird screen after Hitting Reply With Quote, but not often . - If that does happen, then abort and try again. Eventually it always works. The only problem is that you lose any quotes that you had in the original Post.
Otherwise this workaround has never failed me.

Edit: The problem has been around for ages. I do not think it is a result of the problems yesterday. We have frequently had problems over the last couple of years, sometimes more, sometimes less. This Edit problem has always been constantly there for me though out the last couple of years

Thanks for the reply. I've been reading some more old posts about this- many of them yours- and I think it may have to do with the content of the code rather than the size. The post that was giving me problems this morning contained a call to the Replace function and it seems that that particular word can cause problems with the firewall?

I will give your workaround a try too.

It is one of the distinguisching characteristics of Excel Forum, all these problems
You grow to live with them.
I would probably miss them if they went away.


The worst problem was all the viruses we had in the first couple of months of this year. That killed off a lot of Members, sadly. One of our best contributors, a Moderator, still has very limited access due to his place of work and their virus / firewalls etc denying access still to Excel Forum, following that long time we were "under attack"

Yep, it was bad....
there was a time when the Water Cooler and Suggestions For Improvement Sub Forums were flooded with Threads about it

I have never used that character £
So if there is a problem there , then it is another to add to the list !
