How to count a text string in column in access?

Greetings to all Access experts

I have a field name "Voucher Type" that may contain
1) CPV
2)CRV
3)BPV
4)BRV
5)JrV
Now if the voucher type has CPV then my current voucher number field should count the previous occurences of CPV in voucher type column field and return "CPV" occurances and add 1 to it so that I may get the next voucher number dynamically for diffirent voucher types. I hope I am understood. If not I will further explain

That is fantastic exactly what im after - i now have to apply this to
some sort of keyword search. ie. to find the records that contain the
greatest number of instances of a certain set of keywords.

i should be able to adapt this - thank-you
